founding

The NaturLandschaftSchutz Deilbachtal eV association emerged from the Fettenberg -Deilbachtal citizens' initiative , which was formed in 2008 due to the massive expansion of factory farming systems in the Deilbachtal recreation area . The founding meeting took place on July 8, 2009. Hans-Jürgen Jeromin, Petra Scherbel and Claudia Eckern were elected as the first CEOs.

Projects and Actions

The association has already carried out several campaigns to inform the population about the effects of intensive animal husbandry on humans, animals and nature.

On May 20, 2009, a panel discussion was held in cooperation with BUND and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen (Wuppertal parliamentary group) , moderated by Corinna Schlechtriem (known from WDR ). Participants were Johannes Remmel (since July 2010 Minister for Climate Protection, Environmental Protection, Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection), Ingo Gödeke (BUND Karlsruhe), Jörg Liesendahl (at that time the district chairman of BUND Wuppertal), Dr. Hanspeter Ammann (physician), Prof. Dr. Hans J. Lietzmann ( political scientist at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal ) and many interested citizens from Wuppertal and the surrounding area, who made the discussion a successful event with interesting questions and comments.

In June 2009, in collaboration with the animal rights organization peta, one of the largest organic egg fraud cases in North Rhine-Westphalia was uncovered. Observations and research have shown that the operator did not adhere to the legally binding EU ecological requirements, which resulted in the organic label being withdrawn.

petition

In March 2009 a petition was submitted to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. The content was the concerns and objections to the application for a permit for a laying hen facility on Fettenberger Weg (Wuppertal-Dönberg), in particular with regard to development , accumulation (several facilities close together), species and nature conservation, water protection , health hazards from dust, bacteria and ammonia .

The deputy chairwoman of the Petitions Committee, Ms. Sigrid Beer, invited to a non-public meeting on February 7, 2010. Participants: Sigrid Beer (Member of the Bundestag, Deputy Chair of the Petitions Committee), Marc Ratajczak (Member of the Petitions Committee, Member of the CDU District Mettmann), Mr. Gross (member of the Petitions Committee), Mr. Herrmann (North Rhine-Westphalia Building Ministry), Karl Friebe (District Mettmann -Department Head of Building Supervision) and Hubertus Bäther (City of Wuppertal, Environmental Protection Department).

The aim was to get a more precise picture of the planning and to get a personal impression of the massive earth movements and rock erosion, the location in the landscape protection area , and the immediate proximity to the nature reserve . In addition, both the petitioners and the administrative staff had the opportunity to explain their different points of view.

In its meeting on June 22, 2010, the Petitions Committee fully confirmed the petitions. The supervisory authorities were asked to carry out the strictest controls and sanctions against the operator. Reason: the recurring violations of legal regulations.

The supervisory authorities were further urged to step out of their reactive role and to exhaust all legal possibilities. The sale of municipal property to the operator for the implementation of the factory animal facility in Wuppertal- Dönberg was questioned and such action by the city of Wuppertal was viewed as the wrong signal. In addition, the Petitions Committee drew attention to the particular stress situation of the people living at the plant sites in view of the numerous laying hen facilities.
