Natural Track Junior World Championships 2012

The 8th FIL - Natural Track Luge Junior World Championship took place from February 3rd to 5th, 2012 on the Gumpfrei natural toboggan run in Latsch in South Tyrol ( Italy ). After the training runs and the opening ceremony on Friday, the decisions in the doubles and singles competitions were made on Saturday and Sunday. Athletes from twelve countries took part in the races, including tobogganers from Turkey , who started in natural track competitions for the first time. The Italians Alex Gruber and Alexandra Obrist became junior world champions in single-seater, while the title in doubles went to Austrians Christoph Regensburger and Dominik Holzknecht .

As in the European Junior Championships last year , the Italian Alex Gruber won the gold medal. He set the best time in all three races. With the second-fastest time in each case, the second-placed Dominik Holzknecht from Austria won his first medal in the single-seater, as did the third-placed Italian Martin Kerschbaumer , who set the third-fastest time. All 27 registered and started tobogganers reached the finish.

The Italians dominated the women's singles competition. Alexandra Obrist , silver medalist at the last Junior World Championships in 2010 , won the competition ahead of Greta Pinggera and Sara Bachmann , for each of whom it was the first medal in international junior competitions. Of the 21 registered tobogganers, 20 started and 19 came into the ranking.

The Austrians Christoph Regensburger and Dominik Holzknecht won the gold medal with the best running times in both rounds. Regensburger had already won gold in doubles at the last Junior World Championships , at that time together with Thomas Kammerlander . Second place went to the Russians Pawel Silin and Ilja Tarasow , who both had already won bronze medals at junior championships with other partners. The silver medalists from two years ago, the Austrians Dominik and Dieter Apolloner , took third place this time. All seven registered and started two-seater pairs were included in the ranking. The only woman in the doubles competition was the Italian Ylenia Sarteur .
