Dominik Holzknecht has been competing in single-seater intercontinental cup races since the 2007/2008 season and achieved top 10 placements for the first time in the 2008/2009 season. At the Junior World Championship in Latsch in 2008 , however, he started in the doubles together with Rupert Brüggler . They finished fourth, missing the medal ranks by nine tenths of a second. At the Junior European Championships 2009 in Longiarü and the Junior World Championships 2010 in Deutschnofen , Holzknecht started in the single-seater and finished tenth.
Since the end of the 2009/2010 season, Dominik Holzknecht has formed a two-seater pair with Christoph Regensburger , who is the same age and also belongs to SV Umhausen . In their first joint Intercontinental Cup race in February 2010, they already achieved second place. In the 2010/2011 season, they finished second in all IC Cup races and thus won the overall standings. On February 25, 2011, Regensburger / Holzknecht contested their first joint World Cup race at the finals of the 2010/2011 season in Olang , which they finished eighth. Christoph Regensburger had already competed in the World Cup with Thomas Kammerlander for the past two years . At the European Junior Championships 2011 in Laas , the Regensburger / Holzknecht duo won the silver medal behind the Russians Maxim Zwetkow and Denis Moissejew ; Holzknecht took 13th place in the single-seater.
At the Junior World Championship 2012 in Latsch , Regensburger / Holzknecht secured the gold medal in the doubles. In addition, Dominik Holzknecht came second in the single-seater. In the Intercontinental Cup in the 2011/2012 season, Holzknecht achieved second place overall with Regensburger in both single and double-seater positions, while in the World Cup in winter 2011/2012 the only result of the Regensburger / Holzknecht duo was ninth place in Olang.
