general information
The Indetal nature reserve comprises a grassland area with wet meadows , which is a biotope for numerous endangered animal and plant species. It is located in a depression between the town of Krauthausen in the south and the Brander district of Freund in the north along the Inde stream. The eastern border is the former Komerich watermill . In the west, the area is bounded by state road 258 .
In the past, the abundance of water in the area was used to operate water mills . The Komericher Mühle is still located in the area of the nature reserve. It had two water wheels that supplied the energy for the spinning mill. It was not until 1928 that they were replaced by electric motors. The originally 400 m long mill moat is still partially preserved.
geology
The area is characterized by Pleistocene , basic clay deposits . Slope pressure sources ensure a moist soil structure. In the washouts of the creek banks have potholes formed, washouts, gave rise to the valuable in the resulting slack water areas micro-habitats. The Inde has water quality 1–2 in the area of the nature reserve.
fauna
The fauna of the nature reserve includes numerous animal species that love moisture. These include the marsh warbler (Acrocephalus palustris), the goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), the blackcap (Sylvia communis), the yellow mocker (Hippolais icterina), kingfishers (Alcedo atthis) and the dipper (Cinclus cinclus). The gray wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) and the small woodpecker (Dendrocopos minor) also find a suitable biotope here. In addition, the Indetal nature reserve offers a habitat for rare species of locusts such as the small golden insect (Euthystira brachyptera), the marsh grasshopper (Chorthippus montanus) or the marsh insect (Stethophyma grossum, syn. Mecostethus grossus). Besides the brown trout, the brook lamprey , pond newts (Triturus vulgaris), the yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata) and the grass snake (Natrix natrix) live in the stream .
In the nature reserve you can find the tree falcon (Falco subbute), the black kite (Milvus migrans) and also the little owl (Athene noctua).
flora
The nature reserve is characterized by grassland and bog structures. The wetlands have rich meadows of marsh marigolds , brown sedge , large sedge and irises . Occasionally orchids can be found here . Bear's garlic is also one of the still frequently encountered plants.
Alder forests line the meandering stream . Existing poplar stands are felled and replaced by alder and willows that are appropriate to the location .
Old fruit trees offer cave breeders ideal breeding opportunities .
Management
To protect the wet meadows, part of the area was acquired by NABU between 1992 and 1995 . The management is extensive, i.e. through grazing with sheep, manual mowing of the grass areas and appropriate hedge maintenance.
