The Machnower See nature reserve , also known as the Groß Machnower See nature reserve , is a small nature reserve that lies entirely within the Groß Machnow district (Gem. Rangsdorf , Brandenburg). It covers 35 hectares and in the core contains the Machnower See (also Groß Machnower See) with a water surface of approx. 8 hectares. The banks of the Machnower See are inaccessible. The quarry forest that surrounds the lake is only partially accessible in summer, and is partially flooded when the water level is high. The nature reserve was established in 1986.

location

The nature reserve is located in the southwest of the Groß Machnow district. It stretches from the dam through the quarry forest of the Machnower See near Pramsdorf along the edge of the forest to the southeast corner of the development of Rangsdorf. The border continues along the eastern development boundary from Rangsdorf to the north to Weg Wiesengrund. The Zülowgrabenniederung nature reserve begins here on the other side of the path . From there and away from the meadow, the border stretches along the quarry forest straight to the east, further along the quarry forest to the south and south-west, again to Pramsdorfer Weg.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve consists mainly of swamp forests and a very wide belt of reeds, which are primarily breeding grounds for many rare bird species, including cranes. In autumn and spring the lake is also a resting place for passing wild geese. The wetlands are also the habitat of rare plant communities.
