Neil H. Jacoby

Neil Herman Jacoby (born September 19, 1909 in Saskatchewan , Canada ; † May 31, 1979 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American economist and university professor who was president of the American Finance Association in 1949 and a member of the American Finance Association between 1953 and 1955 Council of Economic Advisers was.

Life

After attending school, Jacoby began an undergraduate degree at the University of Saskatchewan , which he completed in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A post-graduate studies of economics at the University of Chicago concluded it in 1938 with a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D. ) with a dissertation titled sales Retail taxation. In the early to mid-1940s, he worked for the National Bureau of Economic Research ( NBER ), where he wrote several non-fiction books on finance and economics. He was a professor at the University of Chicago and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a member of the board of trustees of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey . He served intermittently as dean of UCLA's Graduate School of Business Administration .

In 1949 Jacoby became president of the American Finance Association for one year . In 1953 he was appointed to the Council of Economic Advisers , an advisory body to the President of the United States . He was a member of this until 1955. In 1968 he was also an advisor to the Federal Reserve System and in 1973 a Fellow of the International Academy of Management. He was also involved in the American Economic Association , the Center for International Business, the Council on International Progress in Management, the National Planning Association, the National Tax Association and the Tax Research Foundation.
