Nell Carter
Nell Carter , actually Nell Ruth Hardy , (born September 13, 1948 in Birmingham , Alabama , † January 23, 2003 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American actress and singer .
Life
Nell Carter began training as an actress and singer after finishing school. She appeared in various theater productions as an actress. In 1978 she received the Tony Award for her role in the musical Ain't Misbehavin ' . She also received the Emmy Award in 1982 for her role in the television adaptation of Ain't Misbehavin ' . Furthermore, Carter was seen in various roles on American television. She became known through the impersonation of the housekeeper Nellie Ruth Harper in the television series Gimme a Break! .
Carter lived in California with her life partner Ann Kaser and their two adopted sons and a daughter. Carter died on January 23, 2003 in Beverly Hills, California.
