The Neumarkter Jura-Volksfest is a folk festival in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate . It takes place annually in August around Assumption and lasts 11 days. It goes back to an offshoot of the Munich Oktoberfest , which was introduced as an agricultural festival in 1830 by Neumarkt citizens. Today it is one of the largest and most popular folk festivals in Bavaria, annually around 300,000 visitors come from Upper Palatinate , Upper Bavaria , Middle Franconia and Upper Franconia .

The amusement park with the rides is located on the Volksfestplatz on Kurt-Romstöck-Ring and has an area of ​​approx. 13,000 square meters, here approx. 10 large rides are set up (e.g. Ferris wheel , roller coaster ), as well as numerous smaller shooting galleries, Amusement shops and food stalls. The catering area will be set up in and around the neighboring Jura halls . The beer garden offers space for around 5000 people, brass bands and rock bands perform every day in the Great Jura Hall and the Small Jura Hall, and there is space for a further 8,000 people.

Program and schedule

The Jura Volksfest offers several program highlights. On the first Sunday there is a big pageant through the center of Neumarkt, made up of numerous brass bands, festival carriages as well as foot groups and floats from various associations and institutions from the surrounding region. A total of around 115 groups take part. The pageant leads from Freystädter Strasse and Bahnhofstrasse through the old town and reaches the fairground via Kurt-Romstöck-Ring, where the train dissolves. 25,000 people can be found as spectators along the route.

A sporting event is part of the program on each of the two Sundays , usually an ASV Neumarkt soccer game on the neighboring sports field and a boxing or wrestling match in the Jura-Halle.

Individual days are aimed at specific target groups with special program items and discounts: there is an afternoon for senior citizens , a day for people with disabilities or two afternoons for children and families .

On the last day there is the Roßmarkt , a horse and foal show where the animals are judged and awarded according to breeding and dressage criteria. This spectacle also attracts 15,000 spectators annually. At the end of the festival, fireworks will be ignited in the evening, followed by the closing fair.

Beer and breweries, catering

The festival beer is produced annually by the three Neumarkter breweries Neumarkter Lammsbräu , Gansbrauerei and Glossner-Bräu . Other types of beer are not served. Beer mugs and food are served daily until midnight, after which there is curfew on the square . Only the bar in the Kleine Jura-Halle, the Pils stalls in front of the Jura-Hallen and the wine tent are allowed to continue serving until 3 a.m. The current host is Albert Zollbrecht.

Security and Infrastructure

The Red Cross maintains first aid stations in both Jura halls, which are manned around the clock. The police shows strong presence at the fairground, while it is also used by the riot police supported. Stadtwerke Neumarkt is expanding the operation of the city ​​buses during the festival ; these run daily until around 1 a.m. to all parts of the city and also serve the surrounding communities.
