Offstein sugar factory

The hamlet of Neuoffstein is part of the local community Obrigheim (Palatinate) , which is located in the extreme northeast of the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim . The hamlet consists of the production site of Südzucker's Offstein plant and a few residential buildings.

Neuoffstein is located on state road 395 between the municipality of Offstein (1 km in the northeast, already in the Rhenish Hessian district of Alzey-Worms ) and the core town of Obrigheim (1 km in the southwest). On June 7, 1969, in the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform, the smaller communities on the middle Eisbach - Albsheim an der Eis , Colgenstein-Heidesheim , Mühlheim and Obrigheim (to which the hamlet of Neuoffstein already belonged) - became today's local community of Obrigheim (Pfalz) newly formed. This also changed the district affiliation, since the previous district of Frankenthal (Palatinate) was also dissolved in 1969. Since 1972 Obrigheim has been part of the then newly formed community of Grünstadt-Land , which was merged into the community of Leiningerland on January 1, 2018 .

Economy and Infrastructure

With more than 500 employees, Südzucker's Offstein plant is the largest employer in the community of Grünstadt-Land.

The Autobahn 6 runs 6 km south, the next junction, 19 ( Grünstadt ), is 8 km away. The Autobahn 61 passes 5 km to the east and the next junction, 58 ( Worms ), is also 8 km away.

Rail transport to the sugar factory was suspended for about ten years. In November 2007, these “sugar trains” resumed operations on the route from Grünstadt to Neuoffstein .

The Eisbach is used by the sugar factory to divert the water from the sugar beet - after it has been treated in clarification ponds; per day of production this is around 350 m³, which is used for the water flow of the stream.
