Nílton De Sordi , (occasionally Newton De Sordi , born February 14, 1931 in Piracicaba , São Paulo , † August 24, 2013 in Bandeirantes , Paraná ) was a Brazilian football player . He was active for almost the entire time of his career for São Paulo FC and was the 1958 soccer world champion with the national team .
Career
Club career
Nílton De Sordi started his football career at Esporte Clube XV de Novembro in his hometown of Piracicaba . De Sordi began playing for the club in 1949 at the age of eighteen. In 1952 he moved to São Paulo FC .
With São Paulo De Sordi won the Campeonato Paulista, the state championship of São Paulo, twice in 1953 and 1957 . As part of the national championship, De Sordi came to 536 missions for the Tricolor , but he did not succeed in scoring. He played football until 1965 and saw the opening of the club's new stadium, Estádio do Morumbi , in 1960, which was considered one of the largest stadiums in the world to be owned by a club in those years.
His last game for São Paulo made De Sordi on June 16, 1965, 13.5 years after his debut with the club on January 1, 1951. After the end of his playing career, De Sordi, who played in the position of a defender, became a football coach. He coached some lower-class Brazilian clubs and his greatest success was winning the Paraná hinterland championship , the Campeonato do Interior from 1966 with União Bandeirante FC , a club from Bandeirantes that was dissolved in 2006 .
National team
De Sordi made 22 international matches for the Brazilian national soccer team between 1955 and 1961 . With her he first took part in the 1956 South American Championship in Uruguay , where Brazil was only fourth behind Uruguay, Chile and Argentina.
De Sordi was also in the squad of today's record champions at the 1958 World Cup and was used in all the Brazilians' games with the exception of the final. There coach Vicente Feola Djalma Santos started in the position of the injured De Sordi. Brazil won the final against hosts Sweden thanks to two goals from Vavá and Pelé and a goal from Mário Zagallo 5-2 and crowned themselves world champions for the first time.
