Nic Pizzolatto
Nic Pizzolatto (born October 18, 1975 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American screenwriter , author and university professor .
Life
Nic Pizzolatto comes from a poor, Catholic and Italian-born working class family. When he was five, the family moved to Lake Charles , western Louisiana, where he graduated from high school . With the support of a scholarship, he was able to visit Louisiana State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) exam in English and philosophy. He then moved to Austin , Texas, and worked there in various professions. He attended the University of Arkansas , from which he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in 2005.
Pizzolatto's first publications were two short stories published in November 2004 in The Atlantic Monthly magazine. He published in 2006 and 2009, more short stories and taught until 2010 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , the University of Chicago and the DePauw University in Greencastle (Indiana) the subjects Fiction and literature. In 2010, after the publication of his novel Galveston , he moved with his wife and daughter to Ojai , California , where he has only devoted himself to writing ever since.
Pizzolatto became known as a screenwriter in 2011 for his work on the TV crime series The Killing , his breakthrough came in 2014 with the scripts for the HBO series True Detective , on which he also worked as a co-producer. True Detective's second season , featuring new actors and characters, aired on HBO on June 21, 2015 . In 2016 he was involved in the remake of The Magnificent Seven . In 2018 Galveston , the film adaptation of Pizzolatto's novel of the same name, which he wrote himself under the pseudonym Jim Hammett, was released. HBO has been broadcasting the third season of True Detective since 2019 .
