Niccolò del Giudice (born June 16, 1660 in Naples , † January 30, 1743 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was born the second of ten children of Domenico del Giudice , Prince of Cellamare , Viceroy of Aragón , Grandee of Spain, and his wife Costanza Pappacoda from the family of the Princes of Triggiano . His paternal uncle was Cardinal Francesco del Giudice and his cousin Niccolò Caracciolo became a cardinal in 1715.

Niccolò del Giudice studied in Rome at the Seminario Romano and at the University of La Sapienza . There he acquired a doctor utriusque iuris . After a call from his uncle, he then held various positions in the Roman Curia .

Nothing is known about ordinations .

At the consistory of June 11, 1725 Niccolò del Giudice was by Pope Benedict XIII. created as cardinal deacon , dispensed with the hindrance that his uncle and cousin were already cardinals. On July 23, 1725 he received the newly established title diakonia Santa Maria ad Martyres , this church - the ancient Pantheon - is also known as La Rotonda . As cardinal, Niccolò del Giudice took part in the conclaves of 1730 and 1740 .

Niccolò del Giudice died on January 30, 1743 at around seven o'clock in the evening in Rome. His body was laid out in the Church of San Ignazio in Rome, where the funeral service of the Capella papalis took place on February 1, 1743 . He was temporarily buried in the church of Santa Maria in Traspontina in Rome, later the bones were transferred to his native city of Naples and, according to his will, buried there in the church del Carmine .
