Nickel (II) diphosphate is an inorganic chemical compound of nickel from the group of diphosphates .

Extraction and presentation

The yellow nickel diphosphate can be obtained by reacting phosphorus pentoxide with nickel (II) oxide . Its yellow hexahydrate can be obtained by reacting sodium pyrophosphate solution with a nickel salt.

It can also be obtained by decomposing nickel hydrogen phosphate .

Or by thermal decomposition of the easily produced ammonium nickel phosphate hydrate .

Four different crystal structures are known of nickel diphosphate. The normal temperature form is isotypic to that of the corresponding magnesium salt with the space group B 2 1 / c (space group no. 14, position 5) . The high-temperature form that develops from 565 ° C is isotypic to thortveitite with the space group C 2 / m (space group no. 12) . The γ form is isotypic to that of the corresponding zinc salt.
