Nicolae Moldoveanu (conductor)
Nicolae Moldoveanu (born July 20, 1962 in Hunedoara , Romania ) is a Romanian conductor .
Nicolae Moldoveanu emigrated to Switzerland in 1986. Moldoveanu studied with Wilfried Boettcher , Horst Stein , Ralf Weikert and Antal Doráti at the Zurich University of the Arts , the Basel Music Academy and the Bern University of the Arts . He attended master classes with Lothar Zagrosek and Sergiu Celibidache . In London he studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Colin Metters , George Hurst and Sir Colin Davis . There he was awarded the Edwin Samuel Dove Prize in 1993. He attended further courses with Ilya Musin , Leonard Slatkin and Roger Norrington .
He began as Arts Council Young Conductor (from 1994), then as Resident Conductor (from 1996) with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra . From 1998 to 2005 he was chief conductor of the English Sinfonia and from 2002 to 2008 permanent guest conductor of the London Mozart Players . He then worked until 2012 as a conductor with the Filarmonica de Stat "Transilvania" in Cluj-Napoca .
He has worked with several renowned orchestras, such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , the Zurich Chamber Orchestra , the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden , the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra , the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra , the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
