Nicolai Theilinger (born February 9, 1992 in Koengen ) is a German handball player . The left-hander has been playing in the first Bundesliga for Frisch Auf Göppingen since 2019 .
Career
youth
Nicolai Theilinger grew up in the municipality of Köngen in Baden-Württemberg . There he attended the high school Burgschule Köngen. Nicolai discovered his love for handball with the minis of the EK-Köngen. He also found his passion for athletics at TSV Köngen. He followed this up to the age of 14. At the same time, Nicolai switched to TSV Köngen in handball in the E-Jugend. Here he played up to the B youth. In the B youth, Nicolai then moved to VfL Pfullingen . Under the leadership of Alexander Job , the young team became South German champions and later twice South German runner-up in the A-youth.
National team Nicolai was also a popular player in the youth national team. Under the direction of Christian Schwarzer (DHB youth coordinator) and Heiko Karrer (DHB trainer) the Victors Cup was won and played against Denmark, among others. In addition, a tournament was played in France where Nicolai was the best German shooter with 11 goals. During a trip to Egypt three encounters against the Egyptian national team were on the program. Nicolai scored 56 goals in 22 international matches.
Active time
Nicolai Theilinger was under contract in his first year at VfL Pfullingen and was allowed to gain additional experience through a second game right at the second division TV 1893 Neuhausen . With his promotion to the Bundesliga, Nicolai moved completely to Neuhausen. A year later, he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. The following winter, Nicolai moved to the former Bundesliga club HC Erlangen at the halfway point of the season . However, this unhappily descended in an exciting final battle of the season. After another year in the 2nd Bundesliga, he was immediately promoted back to the upper house of German handball, where they found themselves in the secured midfield after the end of the season. For the 2019/20 season he switched to league rivals Frisch Auf Göppingen .
National team In March 2017, national coach Christian Prokop nominated the German national team for the senior squad . In his first two games Nicolai scored 2 goals against Sweden.
