Nicolas Wackerbarth (born May 31, 1973 in Munich ) is a German film director , author and actor .

Life

Nicolas Wackerbarth received his acting training at the Bavarian Theater Academy August Everding in Munich . From 1996 he was on stage at the Schauspielhaus Frankfurt and from 1997 to 2000 he was a member of the Cologne Theater Ensemble .

He then learned film directing at the DFFB in Berlin. His short film Half Hours was invited to the 2007 Cannes International Film Festival . The graduation film Unter Mitte Kinn (2011), produced by the ZDF editorial team, Das kleine Fernsehspiel , received an honorable mention at the Munich Film Festival . In 2013, his feature film Halbschatten was premiered in the Forum section of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival and subsequently shown at numerous international festivals. At the 2017 Berlinale , casting was celebrated by critics and audiences alike. Before the cinema releases in France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany, Casting was shown at the Viennale , the BFI London and the Midnight Sun Film Festival and opened the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema 2017. Casting was nominated in three categories for the German Film Prize and with awarded the Ludwigshafen Film Art Prize. The main actor Andreas Lust received the Günter Rohrbach Film Prize for his role as Gerwin .

Nicolas Wackerbarth teaches as a lecturer at art and film schools such as the HFF Munich , the DFFB Berlin , the UdK Berlin , the Hamburg Media School , the HFBK Hamburg and the St. Petersburg School of New Cinema. He has been a member of the European Film Academy since 2018 . He publishes texts on film ( Cargo , Las Naves Cine, Revolver , Cinema Scope) and regularly organizes film talks (Revolver Live!) At the Volksbühne Berlin .

Nicolas Wackerbarth is co-editor of the film magazine Revolver . He lives in Berlin.
