Niederleierndorf is a district of the Langquaid market in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

Niederleierndorf is located on the Große Laber, east of Langquaid, then on Oberleierndorf, close to the border with the Upper Palatinate .

history

The early settlement of the area is proven by an urnfield hoard find. Leyerndorf once formed a Hofmark . In the 18th century it gained some importance as a place of pilgrimage . According to legend, a trader who often came to this area bought a picture of Mary used as a toy from a Protestant family and placed it in an old tree across the river Laber. When numerous people made pilgrimages to the picture, it was brought to the newly built church in Leyerndorf.

In 1807 there were 42 houses in Niederleierndorf. In 1809, during the Battle of Eggmühl , the church was in short-term danger of being destroyed. The congregation later attributed the sparing of the church to the special protection of the Virgin Mary.

The municipality of Niederleierndorf, founded in 1818 with the Bavarian municipal edict, with the suburbs Niederleierndorf, Eichbühl and Gitting (connected with Niederleierndorf) belonged to the district court Rottenburg, district office Rottenburg and from 1939 to the district Rottenburg an der Laaber . With the construction of the Eggmühl – Langquaid railway line in 1903, Niederleiernbach received a railway connection. As early as 1963, a chronicler reported that the Niederleierndorf train station had only been occupied occasionally for several years. On May 1, 1978 Niederleierndorf was incorporated into the Langquaid market as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . The Augustinian Canons in Paring Monastery have looked after the church since 1978 .
