Listertal nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Listertal nature reserve is a 63.97 hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the town of Meinerzhagen in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2001 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 6 Meinerzhagen . The NSG is divided into eight sub-areas by streets, paths and buildings. The NSG is mostly located directly on the L 539 and L 709 highways. The Meinerzhagen – Krummenerl railway is located south and east near the NSG.

Area description

The NSG is the lower reaches of the Lister with its floodplain . The Lister is on average approx. 4 m wide in the NSG and partly meanders in large loops through the valley. There is usually a wooded border along the river. In the floodplain there are moist to wet meadows and pastures that are managed as pasture and meadow. Larger areas have fallen fallow and are recognizable by their abundance of tall forbids.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the conservation and development of the Lister valley and floodplain and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
