Grotmicke nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Grotmicke is a 5.28 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northeast of the Genkeltalsperre in the town of Meinerzhagen in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2001 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 6 Meinerzhagen . The NSG is divided into two areas. The NSG begins in the inlet area of the Grotmicke in the northwestern tip of the Genkeltalsperre.

Area description

The NSG is the lower reaches of the near-natural and in sections meandering Grotmicke with its floodplain up to the inlet area in the Genkeltalsperre. There is a wooded border by the river. In the floodplain there are partly moist to wet meadows and pastures. Some grassland areas are rich in rushes and sedge. The meadow valley typical of the landscape with extensively used wet and humid grassland, indigenous hardwood trees and a near-natural stream is the habitat of endangered and specific plant and animal communities. There are fallow grassland in the NSG that are designed as tall herbaceous areas. Aspect-forming reeds and meadowsweet tall herbaceous meadows, in which forest rush and rush swamps are embedded like a mosaic. Occasionally there are also smaller willow bushes in the fallow areas. In the northwest of the NSG there is a former fishing pond. The south-western section of the valley is occupied by an alder forest that accompanies the stream. The alders are mostly multi-stemmed, which indicates a former use as a forest rash. In the inlet and silting area on the banks of the Genkeltalsperre, a reed bed of reed grass is followed by a sedge and a floating leaf zone made of knotweed in the lake.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the conservation and development of the meadow valley and as a habitat for endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.

For the NSG there are special bans “to use the indigenous wet forest areas (alder swamp forest) purely for forestry” and “to mow the grassland before June 15”.
