Area description

Cranberry in the NSG Auf'm Ebbe (2013)

The NSG is about areas of the ebb forest mountains with the ebb bogs and forest areas. The forest areas, which are mainly populated with red beech , are characterized by their large area, as well as the outstanding age structure with many old trees and the great diversity of species. In the ebb bogs there are areas with peat moss-rich montane spring, transition and heather bogs, bog birch and alder forests. In the NSG there are also areas with wet and poor grassland areas, as well as limestone grasslands . There are flowing waters with underwater vegetation in whose floodplains there are alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests. There are also heather areas with juniper stands on dwarf shrub heaths and damp heaths with bell heather .

A special feature is that in the NSG, both Atlantic, continental and sub-Mediterranean plant species have reached their limit of distribution and in some cases have isolated outposts with their focal point of distribution further away.

In the NSG species occur as Raufußkauz , pygmy owl , gray-headed woodpecker , black woodpecker , kingfisher and bullhead ago.

Protection purpose

Headwaters of the Lister in the NSG Auf'm Ebbe (2014)

As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.

Under special prohibitions in the landscape plan u. a. listed "to use the indigenous wet forest areas (swamp birch forest, brook-alder-ash forest, source area with beech forest, ear willow bushes) purely for forestry purposes".
