Duwelssiepen nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Duwelssiepen is an 8.59 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northeast of Meinerzhagen in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2001 by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 6 Meinerzhagen . At one point in the west, there is the nature reserve Sichter-Taläume . The NSG extends almost to the federal highway 45 (A 45). On the A 45 there is the motorway service area Duwelssiepen at the NSG .

Area description

The NSG is a moderately sloping western slope with near-natural old beech forest with mixed-in sessile oaks . The beeches are partly multi-stemmed, which indicates a former coppice forest management . In some areas, Ilex forms a closed undergrowth. There are spring and bog areas in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated “for the preservation, restoration and optimization of a near-natural beech forest with seepage springs, bog areas and near-natural stream as a habitat for endangered animal and plant communities”. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.

According to the landscape plan, the NSG prohibits "the indigenous wet forest areas (source area with beech forest, alder swamp forest) being used purely for forestry purposes".
