Gleyer nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gleyer nature reserve is a 9.57 hectare nature reserve (NSG) northeast of the village of Hardenberg in the town of Meinerzhagen in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated by ordinance in 1937 as one of the first NSG's in Westphalia . In 2001 the NSG was designated again by the district council of the Märkischer Kreis with the landscape plan No. 6 Meinerzhagen . The NSG consists of two partial areas about 200 m apart. The Holbecke nature reserve is only separated from Kreisstraße 4 on the smaller eastern part of the area.

Area description

The NSG is a juniper heather and the deciduous forest there. The juniper heather in the NSG Gleyer is the remnant of a formerly larger juniper mountain heather that covered almost the entire Gleyer. In the center of the western area there is an open berry bush heather area made of dominating common heather and continually added blueberries and lingonberries . In the southern part of the area, a whistle-grass bog with cottongrass and peat moss deposits is formed in a springy slope hollow. The western part is covered by a z. Blueberry and moor birch forest, similar to a low forest. The second part of the NSG consists of a juniper mountain heather. Numerous overhangs of the tree species spruce, pine and oak shade the area more. There are bracken stocks in the north of the area . The structural wealth is increased by standing and lying dead wood. In the southwest corner there is an older oak-pine stand.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was designated for the preservation and development of a juniper heath and the deciduous forest there and as a habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant species. As with other nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area became a nature reserve “because of its scenic beauty and uniqueness”.
