The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Le Blanc and the canton of Le Blanc (until 2015: canton of Tournon-Saint-Martin ). The inhabitants are called Mérinois .

Mérigny is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Lurais in the north, Fontgombault in the northeast, Sauzelles in the east and northeast, Saint-Aigny in the east, Ingrandes in the southeast, Saint-Germain in the south and southwest, Nalliers in the west and Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé in the Northwest.
