Nikita Dhawan (* 1972 in Thane ) is an Indian scientist . From 2014 to 2018 she was Professor of Political Theory with a thematic emphasis in the field of women and gender studies at the University of Innsbruck and from 2015 to 2018 Director of the Frankfurt Research Center for Postcolonial Studies at the Cluster of Excellence “The Formation of Normative Orders” of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe- University of Frankfurt am Main . Her research interests are transnational feminism , global justice, human rights as well as democracy and decolonization. She has been teaching at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen since 2018 .

Life

Dhawan's first name was given in honor of Nikita Khrushchev. She studied German and Philosophy at the University of Mumbai , as well as Gender Studies at the SNDT Women's University Mumbai. She received her doctorate from the Ruhr University Bochum in 2006. In 2006/2007 she taught as a visiting professor at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg . In 2007 she worked as a scholarship holder at the International Graduate Center for the Study of Culture . In 2008 she was a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck . From 2008 to 2014 she held a temporary junior professorship for political science with a focus on gender / postcolonial studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which was not converted into a permanent position in the summer of 2014.

In June 2018 she was offered a position at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , which she accepted. She is a professor of political science with a focus on gender studies.

She had guest stays at the Universidad de Costa Rica (2013), at the Institute for International Law and the Humanities at the University of Melbourne , Australia (2013), in the Program of Critical Theory at the University of California, Berkeley , USA (2012) the University of La Laguna , Tenerife, Spain (2011), the University of Busan , South Korea (2011), at the Graduate College “Dynamics of Space and Gender” of the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the University of Kassel (2011), the Witwatersrand University , Johannesburg, South Africa (2010) and Columbia University , New York, USA (2008).

Since 2012 she has been one of 13 scholars advising Femina Politica , the only German-language journal for feminist political science.
