Niklaus Friedrich Graf von Mülinen (born March 1, 1760 in Bern ; † January 15, 1833 ibid) was a Swiss historian and mayor of Bern .

Life

Niklaus Friedrich von Mülinen was the son of the mayor Albrecht von Mülinen and studied at the University of Göttingen , where he met Christian Gottlob Heyne and Johann Friedrich Blumenbach . From 1783 he became a close friend with Johannes von Müller . Mülinen was one of the initiators of the Unspunnen Festival of 1805. In 1811 he founded the Swiss History Research Society, which fell asleep again after his death. The library set up by his father and himself was one of the most valuable private collections in Switzerland at the time (more than 6,000 printed works and 800 manuscripts). After Mülinen rose to government before the transition into government, he became the main figure in Bernese mediation and restoration. Between 1803 and 1815 he served five times and between 1816 and 1826 six times as the Berner Amtsschultheiss. He provided his offices in the sense of a cautious development in the direction of legal equality and promoted the development of Switzerland towards a federal state .

Mülinen was raised to the status of Austrian count in 1816 and became a knight of the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle in 1817 .
