Niklaus Rudolf von Wattenwyl
Niclaus Rudolf von Wattenwyl (born January 3, 1760 in Bern , † August 10, 1832 in Aarburg ) was a Swiss general and the last mayor of the restoration period in the city of Bern. He came from the patrician family von Wattenwyl .
In 1798 he successfully resisted the French at Neuenegg , but could not prevent the fall of old Bern. During the mediation period he was Landammann of Switzerland in 1804 and 1810 and General of the Swiss Federal Diet in 1805 and 1813 . As the nominal last mayor of Bern (the last ruling mayor was Emanuel Friedrich von Fischer ), he signed the proclamation of farewell to the resigning aristocratic government on October 20, 1831 .
