Nikola Portner (born November 19, 1993 in Lyon , France ) is a Swiss handball player of Serbian descent.

Nikola Portner's father is the former handball player Zlatko Portner . When the family was eight months old, they moved to Bern from France. At the age of 11 he played for the Swiss club BSC Grosshöchstetten. He made his debut in the NLB at Handball Grauholz, where his father was a coach. Portner has been a Swiss citizen since 2008.

The 1.94 m tall and 96 kg heavy goalkeeper played for the Swiss club BSV Bern Muri in the NLA from 2010 . After the 2011/12 season he was honored with the Swiss Handball Award as the best newcomer of the year. Internationally, he reached the quarter-finals in the 2011/12 European Cup Winners' Cup with Bern , the 3rd round in the EHF Challenge Cup 2010/11 and 1st round in the EHF European Cup 2012/13. For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Kadetten Schaffhausen . With the Kadetten Schaffhausen he won the Swiss championship in 2015 and 2016 and the SHV Cup in 2016 . He has been under contract with the French first division club Montpellier AHB since summer 2016 . With Montpellier he won the EHF Champions League in 2018 . For the 2020/21 season he will move to league competitor Chambéry Savoie HB .

Nikola Portner made his debut in the Swiss national team on November 2, 2011 against Italy and has so far played 87 international matches , in which he scored 8 goals. (As of January 5, 2020) At the 2011 U-19 World Cup, he was elected sixth and best goalkeeper in the All-Star team. With the U-20 selection, he finished eighth at the 2012 European Junior Championships. With the U-21, he finished seventh at the 2013 World Cup and had the most saves of all goalkeepers.
