Nikola Rađen ( Serbian - Cyrillic Никола Рађен ; born January 29, 1985 in Sombor ) is a Serbian water polo player . As a national player, he was once world champion and twice European champion and took part in the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012. In 2015, he was banned for four years for cocaine abuse.

Sports career

Rađen won the world league five times with Serbia : 2008 in Genoa, 2010 Niš, 2011 Florence, 2013 Chelyabinsk and 2014 in Dubai. In addition, third place came at the same event in 2009 in Podgorica.

He finished the European water polo championship with Serbia in 2010 in third place, in 2008 in Málaga in second and in 2012 in Eindhoven and in 2014 in Belgrade as a gold medalist.

The runner-up world championship came about in Shanghai in 2011 after the Serbs won the title with Rađen in Rome in 2009. At the two Olympics in 2008 and 2012 , bronze came out both times, in Beijing behind Hungary and the USA and in London behind Croatia and Italy.

Mention should also be made of the gold medal at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara and the one at the 2005 Summer Universiade in İzmir.

In the spring of 2015, Rađen's career experienced an abrupt interruption, if not its end: he was proven to have used cocaine following the World League game between Serbia and Spain on February 15 . On May 18, there was a four-year ban by the Fina . National team colleague and captain Živko Gocić said in an interview that he personally condemned drug abuse, but still hoped for a reduction in the sentence.

Private life

Rađen married the Serbian pop singer Ana Kokić in early 2015 in Greece, where he was engaged with Olympiacos Piraeus until his suspension .
