Nikolaus Bode

Nikolaus Bode (born October 4, 1938 in Essen ) is a German sculptor , painter and graphic artist. He created steles, stone sculptures, friezes and many other artistic representations for public spaces, especially in Berlin , where he also lives.

Biographical

Bode studied fine arts at the universities of Magdeburg, Dresden and Berlin . Since 1963 he has been a freelance artist based in Berlin .

His fields of work are building-related art , art concepts, fountains and water features, portrait and animal sculptures as well as sacred sculpture. Bode uses all materials such as wood, stone, concrete or bronze for his sculptural work. He created small and large sculptures, as well as pictures and graphics .

In the 2010s, Bode also worked as one of many well-known artists special tombs for a funeral home from Hirrlingen .

Nikolaus Bode is married and has a son who is a restorer and master blacksmith .

  • 1978: Hippopotamus for a fountain on Wühlischplatz . The animal figure made of sandstone was stolen in 1991, the district office of Berlin-Friedrichshain arranged for a replica to be made for a sum of 16,000 DM, now made of bronze , which could be re-erected on the square in 1996.
  • 1978: Concrete cast reliefs village yesterday and today , for the new building of a department store on Münsterlandplatz on Weitlingstrasse.
    The reliefs on the low-rise building have been preserved.
  • 1982: Natural stone fountain, Märkische Allee 166, Berlin-Marzahn . This fountain, made of concrete and natural stone, with a rectangular fountain basin more than four meters in size, served to artistically enhance a space in front of a department store and in front of the residential area restaurant An der Feuerwache . Several small boulders lay on a stone round table in the middle of the pool. Four groups of boulders were arranged in the meadow around the pool . The fountain was dismantled in 2004 for the construction of a new shopping center. The boulders at seat height were set up as a seating group on a green area in front of Murtzaner Ring 71.

    For this commissioned work in preparation for Berlin's 750th anniversary , Bode made his own sketches for six months after the heraldic animals Maxi and Schnute, who lived in the bear kennel.
  • around 1987: Village life : a series of characters and symbolic activities depicting life in the village. The works are made of wood and set up as a group on the meadow in a newly built district in East Berlin .
  • 1989: five meter high post column , original location Marzahner Promenade , since 2006 on the bus place in front of the Eastgate , the sandstone structure was decorated with post snails , which are made of bronze and crawl around the column, there are also plants on the sides and ends - together with others Postal symbols - carved directly into the stone in relief .
  • 1989: three octagonal sandstone fountain basins, Marzahner Promenade 40; they stand on the intermediate landings of a staircase and in their basins four ornamental leaf shapes are set symmetrically. Water trickles down from the leaves.

In 2013, the Friends' Association of the Buch Castle Church organized a retrospective by Nikolaus Bode, part of the proceeds of which were donated to the renovation of the church tower .
