Nikolaus Ferber
Nikolaus Ferber (* around 1483 in Herborn ; † April 15, 1535 in Toulouse ), also Nikolaus von Herborn , was a controversial theologian and a member of the Franciscan order .
He entered the Franciscan order and studied in Cologne. Around 1520 he was guardian of the convent in Marburg and appeared in 1526 at the Homberg Synod in a disputation against the Protestant theologian Franz Lambert von Avignon . From 1527 he was guardian in Brühl and cathedral preacher at Cologne Cathedral , from 1529 to 1532 provincial of the Cologne order province . He was a staunch opponent of the Reformation . Because of his determined commitment against the new movement of Protestantism , he was called in Danish Stagefyr "fire torch" after his appearance at the Gentlemen 's Day in Copenhagen in 1530 . From 1532 until his death he was the general commissioner of the order for the cismontane order provinces (Italy, Austria, Hungary and Poland). During this time he especially promoted the mission .
