Nicholas Piper

Nikolaus Piper (born June 17, 1952 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist .

Career

Immediately after graduating from high school, he volunteered at the Badische Zeitung in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1971 to 1973 , originally with the desire to become a theater critic. During his internship he discovered his interest in economic topics and began studying economics at the University of Freiburg , which he graduated in 1978 with a degree in economics.

He then worked as a local editor in Lörrach , then as a business editor for the SPD weekly Vorwärts in Bonn , and in 1983 as a business correspondent for the Associated Press in Bonn. In 1987 he moved to the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in Hamburg. There he particularly observed the economic collapse of the Soviet system and the rebuilding of a market economy in Eastern Europe .

Since October 1, 1997 he has been working - with a short interruption - for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Munich , from August 1, 1999 as Head of Economics.

From 2007 to 2014 Nikolaus Piper worked as a correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in New York and then became editor-in-chief of his newspaper.
