resume

Nikolaus was born as the son of Prince Eugen von Württemberg and Princess Helene zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg . After attending grammar school in Breslau and studying at the Polytechnic in Hanover , he first belonged to the Austrian navy and then to the Austrian army. In 1860 he became a major and took part in the German-Danish War in 1864 and in the war against Prussia in 1866 . He then went on trips to Spain and North Africa. Since 1877 he was stationed as major general and brigadier in Krakow and from 1882 as field marshal lieutenant and division commander in Komorn .

In 1869 he married the Duchess Wilhelmine Eugenia, the eldest daughter of his half-brother Eugen Erdmann . This marriage remained childless.

From 1888, Duke Nikolaus lived in Carlsruhe, where he worked as a farmer and forester and also studied fishing industry. As a member of the House of Württemberg , he had had a seat and vote in the Württemberg Chamber of Jurors since 1855 , but stayed away from all meetings in Stuttgart with one exception in 1894 .

His burial took place on February 27, 1903. His bust was in the temple at the Erdmannstern. According to the will, Carlsruhe then fell to King Wilhelm II . von Württemberg , who owned it from 1903 to 1921 and spent several weeks hunting holidays in Carlsruhe every year. After his death in 1921, Duke Albrecht Eugen (1895–1954) inherited Carlsruhe.

Like all Württemberg princes, when he was 14 years old (i.e. 1847), Nikolaus received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown .
