Nils Richard Wohlin (born June 11, 1881 in Stockholm , † March 5, 1948 in Stigtomta ) was a Swedish economist, civil servant and politician. Wohlin held the office of Minister of Commerce under Ernst Trygger from April 19, 1923 to October 18, 1924, and from October 2, 1928 to June 10, 1929 that of Finance Minister under Arvid Lindman .

Life

Nils Wohlin studied economics at Uppsala University , where he received his licentiate in 1903 . From 1908, Wohlin worked as a lecturer in economics at Stockholm University , where he received his doctorate in 1913. From 1916 to 1930 Wohlin was Professor of Statistics at Uppsala University. In 1930 he was appointed General Customs Director.

1919–1942 Wohlin was a member of the Swedish Reichstag for various political groups and parties such as the Farmers' Union (1919–1928 and 1932–1942 member of the first chamber and member of the second chamber of the Reichstag 1929–1931). During his political career he held offices in various commissions and was Swedish Minister of Commerce and Minister of Finance.

As a member of the Reichstag, Wohlin supported several petitions and legislative proposals for eugenics . After the Swedish Society for Racial Hygiene ( Svenska sällskapet för rashygien ) was founded for eugenic research in 1909 , Wohlin was part of a network of people who sought to establish a state institute for racial biology and a law for " eugenic sterilization " (including Herman Nilsson- Ehle , Herman Lundborg and Alfred Petrén ). In 1921 Nils Wohlin signed a bill for the creation of a state institute, which was brought into the first chamber of the Reichstag. A second motion had been brought to the second chamber by Hjalmar Branting and Arvid Lindman , along with others . The State Institute of Racial Biology was established at Uppsala University as a result of legislative proposals in 1922.

Nils Wohlin became a member of the Royal Swedish Forestry and Agriculture Academy in 1911 , a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1918 and was a member of the Swedish delegation to the Geneva Disarmament Conference in 1932 . In 1946 he was awarded the Saint Olav Order with Grand Cross for "particularly outstanding services to the cause of Norway during the war".

Nils Wohlin was married to Margit Wohlin (1927–1935) and Andrea Andreen (1937–1942). He was the father of the politicians Ulla Lindström , Lars Wohlin and Anna Wohlin Andersson .
