Nippon Tsūun KK ( Japanese 日本 通 運 株式会社 , Nippon Tsūun kabushiki kaisha ; English Nippon Express Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese group of companies in the field of logistics based in Minato , Tokyo Prefecture .

history

Founded as Riku-un Moto Kaisha ( 陸運 元 会 社 ) in 1872 , renamed Naikoku Tsūun Kaisha ( 内 国 通 運 会 社 ) in 1875 and Kokusai Tsūun Kabushiki Kaisha ( 国際 通 運 株式会社 ) in 1928 , Nippon Tsūun became a semi-state transport company on October 1, 1937 based on the Nippon-tsūun-kabushiki-gaisha-hō ( 日本 通 運 株式会社 法 ) newly founded. During the Sino-Japanese war , a centrally organized transport of goods was required, which is why Nippon Express was founded through the merger of the Kokusai Tsūun Kabushiki Kaisha with numerous small railway companies and six competitors, with financial support from the government of Japan. In 1941-1945, Nippon Express consolidated Japanese transportation companies and began operating as it does now.

In 1950, Nippon Express was converted into a private company, was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is now listed on the Nikkei 225 and the Osaka Stock Exchange . The Master Trust Bank of Japan , Japan Trustee Services Bank and Asahi Mutual Life Insurance Company are the largest shareholders of Nippon Express with stakes of 9.4% and 6.2% each . Together with All Nippon Airways (51.7%), Japan Post Service (33.33%) and Mitsui OSK Lines (5%), Nippon Express held a 10% stake in the cargo airline ANA & JP Express , which is now All Nippon Airways and is to merge with the airline Air Japan .

In 1955, the company began transporting air freight and offering travel services. In 1958 the company entered the US market via offices in New York , followed four years later by the subsidiary Nippon Express USA, Inc. In 1964, the company expanded its business to include transport by sea . The first time walking summed Nippon Express in Europe with opening of offices in Dusseldorf , Amsterdam and Rome in 1966, since 1981 is the subsidiary Nippon Express (Germany) GmbH is currently based in Moenchengladbach , along with its sister company NEX Logistics Europe GmbH , in The Swiss Bassersdorf is the third subsidiary within the DA-CH zone.

The group generates around 90% of its sales within Japan; 276 of the 346 companies are in Japan, the remaining 70 are spread over 35 countries, and a total of 385 locations are spread across 209 cities around the world. According to statista , Nippon Express was one of the ten largest logistics companies in the world in 2009.
