Nir Am

Nir Am ( Hebrew ניר עם) is a kibbutz founded in 1943 in southern Israel between the Gaza Strip and Sderot . He belongs to the Sha'ar HaNegev regional administration .

Nir Am is a secular , agricultural kibbutz in which about 100 families of different origins live. Since its inception, people from Israel , Latin America , France and North Africa have settled here.

In the course of the Gaza conflict in July 2014, the kibbutz, which is less than two kilometers from the Gaza Strip, hit the headlines as fighters from the radical Islamist Hamas entered Israel several times via its tunnel system in the immediate vicinity of Nir Am. Although most of the attacks could be repulsed, there were also fatal attacks on Israeli soldiers near Nir Am.

In Nir Am alone, 100 hectares of wheat fields were destroyed by fire kites from the Gaza Strip in the two weeks from May 14 to 28, 2018.
