history

The Nissos Mykonos was originally commissioned on February 8, 1999 by the Greek shipping company Strintzis Lines. The construction under the planned name Superferry Myconos took place in the shipyard of the Hellenic Shipyards in Chaidari . After Strintzis founded the shipping company Blue Star Ferries in 2000, the ship was to be commissioned for this operator as Blue Star Chios after completion . In the same year, however, the construction was temporarily canceled after delays in the delivery date and the owner withdrew from the contract. Even later targeted dates for October 2001 and March 2002 as completion could not be kept.

In August 2004, the Hellas Flying Dolphins shipping company finally found a new owner, under whom the Nissos Mykonos was completed. After test drives, the ship could be delivered on September 14, 2005 under the management of the Greek Hellenic Seaways. The commissioning took place three days later on the route from Piraeus via Chios to Mytilini.

In the following years, the Nissos Mykonos changed routes several times, with Piraeus always remaining the port of departure. On June 14, 2013, a fire broke out in the ship's chimney during a crossing between Mykonos and Samos. The ferry called at the port of Karlovasi , where all 174 passengers and 74 crew members were able to disembark unharmed and the fire was extinguished. Two days later, the Nissos Mykonos arrived in Drapetsona for repairs . On July 15, the ship was able to resume ferry service.

The Nissos Mykonos serves the route from Piraeus via Syros, Mykonos, Evdilos, Agios Kirykos, Fourni, Karlovasi, Vathy, Mytilini and Limnos to Kavala. Her sister ship is the Nissos Chios , which was put into service in 2007 , and there were also major delays in its construction.
