NoLimits

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NoLimits Rollercoaster Simulation is a computer program for simulating roller coasters . The program, consisting of an editor and a simulator, is based on OpenGL , which allows real-time 3D applications to be programmed. NoLimits has been developed since 1999 by Ole Lange, a computer science student from Hamburg, initially on his own.

The user can use the editor, which is easy to use in comparison to professional CAD software, to design his own route for almost all common roller coasters, or to load a prefabricated route from a selection of real roller coasters and view them in the simulator from different perspectives and try it out immediately in 3D real-time . You can either take on the role of the passenger, an outside observer or that of the ride operator at the virtual control panel. As a ride operator, you have manual functions for operating the roller coaster, for example opening and closing the shoulder bars and the station doors, releasing trains from the station and the emergency stop, which brings the entire system to a standstill. Since the program has a high degree of reality, it is used by well-known manufacturers such as B. Intamin , Gerstlauer , Maurer Söhne or Vekoma are used to visualize planned roller coasters. These visualizations are e.g. B. used for presentation or to create an image of the new system. On January 10, 2014, the sequel to NoLimits was published under the title NoLimits 2 .

Tools

There are numerous tools that can be used to change the route or the environment.

  • AHG (Automatic Heart Line Generator) - A tool that - based on the previous route as a heart line - generates a new route. In the case of lateral inclinations of the rail, this has the previous route (the new heart line) as the pivot point.
  • ObjectCreator - A tool for creating 3D objects that can later be used to design a roller coaster . (No longer available for purchase)
  • ToolBox - A tool for reading out the data of the built route
  • TrackPackager - A tool for packing a roller coaster (in .nltrack format) and associated files (e.g. 3D objects or textures) into an .nlpack file. This facilitates the online exchange of the roller coasters.
  • NLCK (NoLimits Construction Kit) - A tool for changing the route and for attaching flanges , with which you can make the supports of the roller coaster more detailed. (Also no longer available for purchase, but available for free since March 2010)
  • Elementary - A tool with which you can use a simple programming language to design elements for a route using mathematical formulas and use them later.
  • Purgatorium - A tool with which one can rotate, reduce, enlarge, mirror and invert existing elements.
