action

Betty and her supposed friend, the Driver, are passing through. It suggests that Betty is a hostage who the driver of hearing is. When they want to eat something in a restaurant, they are molested by Flynn, a criminal who is there with his gang. Gang leader Hoag tries to stop Flynn from making further attacks. When Betty and her driver make their way back to the motel where they had previously checked in, Flynn drives the couple off the street, steals their car and kidnaps them both. When he searches the vehicle in the gang's hiding place, he finds a young woman in an expanded trunk hiding place. It quickly turns out that this is Emma, the daughter of a millionaires' family, for whose rescue a reward of two million US dollars has been offered. The criminals are sure they have made the catch of their lives, but Emma warns them about the driver, whom she describes as a sociopathic serial killer.

Meanwhile, the tied driver is able to free himself and kills his guard Ethan. Driver's friend Betty previously killed herself by throwing herself into the machete that Ethan held to her neck to intimidate the driver. The driver blames Ethan for this and tries to get revenge on everyone involved. So he digs up the dead Ethan and hides in his body. Unsettled by Emma's statements, which seem to be confirmed when Ethan no longer answers, Hoag sends two gang members to the place that was agreed upon as the whereabouts of Ethan and his hostages. There, however, both find only the bodies of Betty and Ethan and assume that Driver has fled to the nearby woods. They load Ethan's body into their van and take it with them. Arriving at the gang's hiding place, Hoag orders the body to be taken to the adjoining shed. As soon as the men have left, Driver gets out of Ethan's body and prepares everything for the attack. Emma tries to escape in the meantime, but sees Driver standing in the immediate vicinity of the house and decides not to escape, as she believes that she has a better chance of escaping if Driver begins to kill the gang members. Hoag, meanwhile, wants to avenge Ethan's death and search for Driver with his gang. Shortly after he left the house, however, he was attacked and kidnapped. After an interrogation in which Driver learns the group strength of the gang, he kills Hoag and hangs his body in a sack in front of the door of the hiding place. The remaining gang members are shocked by Hoag's death and try to escape with a broken off-road vehicle , which promptly stops. After the car was started again, Driver seriously injured the gang member Denny - but the rest of the gang managed to escape. Driver follows them, however. On the way, Denny is dropped off in front of a hospital. When the criminals are looking for accommodation in the exact motel in which Betty and Driver initially checked in, the latter strikes. Flynn is hit by him and is apparently dead, whereupon Driver turns to Emma, who finally sees her chance to take off Driver. She manages to injure him, but Flynn, who was believed dead, intervenes again. Driver saves Emma when Flynn tries to shoot her and seriously injures him. Emma then tries to shoot Driver again. However, she does not succeed because her weapon is not fully loaded. Driver decides to release Emma, he removes an attached tracking device and lets her go. With one shot, he finally kills Flynn, who is lying on the ground, as well as Harris, the motel owner who has arrived, since he cannot use any witnesses.

A flashback shows the relationship between Betty and Emma and the driver. Emma was faced with a perfidious choice while in captivity. In a supposed dungeon, Driver explained to her that he was the only one who could free her from it. You now have two options, either save him or give in to her hatred and let him bleed to death. If you choose the first option, you will have to die miserably in the dungeon, if you choose the second option, you will at least have a chance to be set free. Then he slit his carotid artery with a box knife without notice . Since Emma did not find a key on him during a search and saw no way of escaping the dungeon without a key, the young woman decided to rescue Driver. After she had taken care of him so that he was no longer in danger, he sneered at her that she did not need a key for the door because it was not locked at all. So she could have let him bleed to death and escaped.

In the last scene, Driver can be seen entering the hospital room of the only remaining gang member in a doctor's coat and strangling it with the words "Nobody survived!" On the way out, he meets Emma one last time, who is surrounded by reporters and paramedics and is just being admitted to the hospital he has just left.
