Life

Noi Trozki was born on March 15, 1895 in Saint Petersburg. His father was a typesetter . Trozki took art lessons from the well-known painter Nikolai Rerich . From 1913 he attended the Akademie der Künste, where he graduated in 1921 after a few breaks in his studies. Among his teachers at the academy was u. a. the architect Iwan Fomin . In 1923, at the age of 28, Trozki became a professor at the Academy of Arts. He died on November 19, 1940 in his hometown.

Worked as an architect in Leningrad

Noi Trozki was both a representative of constructivism , which was initially considered the official art style of the Russian Revolution , but later also designed objects in the style of Socialist Realism . An example of his work as a constructivist architect is the administration building of Kirovsky Rajon (a district of Leningrad), which was built between 1930–35. Only a little later, in 1936–41, the ensemble of Moscow Square in the south of Leningrad was built according to his plans in the style of Socialist Realism or Socialist Classicism . The huge house of the Soviets ( Russian Дом Советов ) takes up an area of around 52,600 m². Its facade, with its classicist columns , is similar to the administrative buildings of many cities in the former Soviet Union , but its dimensions are unique. The model of the German embassy is also used by Peter Behrens , but without following his path of radical form reduction.
