Nolina longifolia forms a corky trunk with a swollen base and a height of 1 to 3 m. The variable, soft, green falling leaves are 50 to 250 cm long and 10 to 30 mm wide. The leaves are finely toothed.
The irregularly branched inflorescence is 1 to 2 m high. The white flowers are 1.5 mm long and in diameter.
When ripe, the woody, pressed capsule fruits are 8 to 12 mm long and 5 to 8 mm wide. The brown, spherical seeds are 3 to 4 mm in diameter.
Nolina longifolia is frost hardy to minus 8 ° C. It is used as an ornamental plant (trade name often "bottle tree" or "elephant foot"), like the Beaucarnea recurvata , which has a similar habit .
