Norman Garwood

Norman Garwood (born January 8, 1946 in Birmingham , England - † April 13, 2019 ) was a British film architect .

Life

Garwood had attended an art school in Birmingham and then, since 1967, worked as an outfitter for British television. Until 1980 he worked mainly for television series before he made his debut as a film architect (art director) for Terry Gilliam's science fiction film Time Bandits . In 1983 Garwood became the sole responsible chief architect (production designer). His final breakthrough in the US film business came with the drafts of Gilliam's science fiction classic Brazil . For this Garwood received his first Oscar nomination and the BAFTA Film Award. His second Oscar nomination followed in 1990 for the historical drama Glory and the third for Steven Spielberg's Hook . In 2005 Garwood was nominated for an Emmy for the television production The Life and Death of Peter Sellers .
