The Normandy is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the French shipping company Brittany Ferries , on the route between Portsmouth and Caen is used.

history

The ship was built under construction number 1315 at the Finnish shipyard Kvaener Masa Yards in Turku . The launch took place on October 5, 1991. The ship was completed on May 5, 1992.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the ship by four four-stroke - twelve-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 12V32E) each with 4,400  kW power , the two controllable pitch propellers act. The ship reaches a speed of around 21  knots . Four diesel generators each with an output of 1,900 kW (2,375  kVA apparent power ) are available for the power supply.

At the end of 2014, the ship was equipped with a gas scrubber for exhaust gas desulfurization at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Santander .

The ship is equipped with three transverse thrusters in the bow . It has two fin stabilizers .

There is space for 2,123 passengers on board. The ship has 220 passenger cabins with a total of 775 beds. In addition, 14 cots are available, which can be used in the cabins if necessary. In addition to the cabins, there are 416 recliners available on board. The passenger cabins are located on decks 5, 6 and 7, the recliners on deck 7. The facilities for passengers, including restaurants and bars, cinemas and shops, are located on decks 7, 8 and 9. The seats in the cinemas are used as additional loungers during night passages. On decks 8 and 9 there is a sun deck in the back of the ship.

On the ro-ro decks with 1,720  lane meters, there is space for 600 cars or 84 trucks. The ro-ro decks, which are located on decks 2–6, can be reached via a bow and stern ramp and connected to one another in the ship by ramps. In front of the bow ramp there is a laterally opening bow hatch . There is also a fixed ramp on the forecastle, which can be used via a shore-side ramp. A bulkhead closes the ro-ro deck behind. In the rearmost area of ​​the ship, the ro-ro deck on deck 5 turns into an open deck. Deck 3 can be reached directly via the bow and stern ramps, deck 5 via landside ramps.
