Norsewood is a village in the Tararua District of the Manawatu-Wanganui region on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
The city is located around 65 km northeast of Palmerston North and around 85 km southwest of Hastings in the plain of the Manawatu River . To the west of the city lies the Ruahine Range .
history
Norsewood was founded in 1872 as a logging settlement by Scandinavian immigrants, 372 Norwegians and 11 Swedes , who arrived on the Norwegian ship Høvding Napier on the east coast of the North Island on September 15, 1872 . On the same day, the English ship Ballarat entered the port of Napier with 70 Danish settlers on board . Together they founded the settlement of Norsewood , around 17 km northeast of Dannevirke , which was also founded by Norwegian and Danish immigrants. On December 1, 1873, the Høvding again brought 389 Norwegians to New Zealand, who supported the settlers who had landed a year earlier.

At the 2013 census, the town had 264 inhabitants in 108 households.
Infrastructure
Norsewood is located between Dannevirke and Waipukurau on New Zealand State Highway 2 , which passes the city east of the city center.
Attractions
There is an immigration museum in the village that tells the story of the Scandinavian settlers.
