The church Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles in Fuensaúco , a district of Renieblas , is one of the Romanesque churches in the vicinity of Soria , the capital of the province of the same name in the Spanish autonomous region of Castile and León . The church was built in the late 12th or early 13th century. Her patronage refers to the Lauretanian litany , in which Mary is praised as Queen of Angels . In 1993 the church was declared a monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ).

architecture

The church is built from regularly cut sandstone blocks. A choir with a semicircular apse adjoins the single nave nave in the east . An open bell tower ( espadaña ) rises between the choir and nave, pierced by four large arched openings and a smaller one above.

The apse is divided into three wall sections by two half-columns , each pierced by a round arched window with loopholes. In the choir house, round windows open on both sides.

portal

The arched portal on the south side of the nave has four archivolts with hardly any decoration. Only on the second archivolt are intertwined semicircles notched. The three outer arches rest on slender columns with figurative capitals . The fighters ( mochetas ) of the two posts on which the inner archivolt rests are also carved. On the left three people are depicted, on the right a large bearded head, next to it a figure holding objects in its hands, and to the side a harpy with two snakes. The capitals on the left are decorated with foliage. On the capitals on the right, the representations of harpies with snakes coiled around their necks and of people carrying objects are repeated. Angels stand next to the people.

inner space

The nave is divided into three bays . Like the choir, the two western bays are covered with a conical barrel. The eastern yoke bears a ribbed vault , which is underpinned by pointed, multi-stepped belt arches . The ribs rest on consoles that are sculpted as human heads. The apse is vaulted by a quarter ton.

Furnishing

The baptismal font and the holy water font have been preserved from the Romanesque furnishings .
