Nueva Jerusalén is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Nueva Jerusalén is a village in the canton of Santa María in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Ascención de Guarayos in the province of Guarayos . Nueva Jerusalén is located at an altitude of 180  m on the right bank of the Río San Pablo , a border river between the Departamento Beni and the Departamento Santa Cruz , which flows further to the village of Puente San Pablo and flows 692 kilometers downstream into the Río Iténez .

Nueva Jerusalem is located in the Moxos plain ( Spanish : Llanos de Moxos), a more than 100,000 km² flood savannah in the northern lowlands of Bolivia. The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm tropics .

The mean average temperature of the region is around 25 ° C (see Urubichá climate diagram) and varies only marginally between 22 ° C in June and July and 27 ° C from October to February. The annual precipitation is about 1,150 mm, with a weak dry season from June to September with monthly precipitation below 45 mm, and a significant humidity period from November to March with monthly precipitation between 140 and 200 mm.

Nueva Jerusalem is 360 kilometers by road north of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.

From Santa Cruz, the paved road Ruta 9 leads together with the Ruta 4 first in an easterly direction via Cotoca to Puerto Pailas , crosses the Río Grande and separates fourteen kilometers later in Pailón . From here the Ruta 9 continues north via Ascención de Guarayos , San Pablo and Santa María de Guarayos to Nueva Jerusalem and after a total of 1175 kilometers it reaches Guayaramerín on the border with Brazil .

The most important idiom in the Municipio Ascención is Spanish , but besides Quechua , Guaraní and Aymara, 27.5 percent of the population speak other indigenous languages . ( 2001 )
