The Municipio Ascención de Guarayos (also: Ascensión ) is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality Ascención is one of three municipalities in the province of Guarayos . It borders in the north and west on the Beni department , in the south on the municipality El Puente , in the southeast on the province Ñuflo de Chávez , and in the east on the municipality Urubichá .

The municipality extends between about 14 ° 16 'and 16 ° 10' south latitude and 62 ° 35 'and 64 ° 02' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 180 kilometers and from north to south up to 140 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 24 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Ascención de Guarayos with 19,254 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southern part of the municipality.

The municipality Ascención de Guarayos is located in the Moxos plain ( Spanish : Llanos de Moxos), a more than 100,000 km² flood savannah in the northern lowlands of Bolivia. The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm tropics .

The mean average temperature of the region is around 25 ° C (see Urubichá climate diagram) and varies only marginally between 22 ° C in June and July and 27 ° C from October to February. The annual precipitation is about 1,150 mm, with a weak dry season from June to September with monthly precipitation below 45 mm, and a significant humidity period from November to March with monthly precipitation between 140 and 200 mm.

The life expectancy of the newborns was 66.9 years, the infant mortality had increased slightly from 5.0 percent ( 1992 ) to 5.1 percent in 2001.
