The Municipio Ascención de Guarayos (also: Ascensión ) is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality Ascención is one of three municipalities in the province of Guarayos . It borders in the north and west on the Beni department , in the south on the municipality El Puente , in the southeast on the province Ñuflo de Chávez , and in the east on the municipality Urubichá .

The municipality extends between about 14 ° 16 'and 16 ° 10' south latitude and 62 ° 35 'and 64 ° 02' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 180 kilometers and from north to south up to 140 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 24 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Ascención de Guarayos with 19,254 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southern part of the municipality.

The municipality Ascención de Guarayos is located in the Moxos plain ( Spanish : Llanos de Moxos), a more than 100,000 km² flood savannah in the northern lowlands of Bolivia. The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm tropics .

The mean average temperature of the region is around 25 ° C (see Urubichá climate diagram) and varies only marginally between 22 ° C in June and July and 27 ° C from October to February. The life expectancy of the newborns was 66.9 years, the infant mortality had increased slightly from 5.0 percent ( 1992 ) to 5.1 percent in 2001.
