Nur ein Diener is a German silent film comedy from 1919 with Bruno Kastner and Ria Jende .

Bruno, a rich bon vivant, puts a marriage advertisement in the newspaper on a joking whim. Among the answers is a letter from the young widow Hertha. But since Bruno does not want to go to the rendezvous himself, he sends his friend out without further ado. Hertha has the same idea and instead of coming herself, sends her best friend to the meeting. In order to get to know Hertha personally but incognito, Bruno offers himself as a servant "Franz" in her household. Of course, it doesn't take long for Hertha and her servant to fall in love.
Production notes
Only one servant passed film censorship in July 1919 and was premiered in November 1919 in the Neue Philharmonie. The five-act film was, depending on the version, 2060 (original 1919) or 1690 (new censorship March 1921) meters long.
Siegfried Wroblewsky created the film structures . This film was the first verifiable film contribution by the actress Ida Wüst , who made her debut as a screenwriter here, but only appeared in front of the camera since the beginning of the 1920s.

Vienna's Neue Freie Presse wrote: “Bruno Kastner, the darling of the female cinema audience, shows himself this time in an extremely amusing, mischievous role. (...) The actors play brilliantly, so that this film can be called one of the most interesting film amusements of the season. "
