In 1999, the Oberhausen State Horticultural Show was the twelfth state horticultural show in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Most of the site, known to this day as the OLGA Park, is located in the Osterfeld district of Oberhausen . The artistic director was Bernhard Paul , the co-founder of Circus Roncalli .

concept

The state horticultural show mainly comprised the site of the former Osterfeld colliery and coking plant . In addition, the banks of the Rhine-Herne Canal and Emscher between the park and the CentrO shopping center , as well as the area around the Oberhausen Gasometer, were part of the garden show, which is now part of the New Center Oberhausen .

Attractions

In the south-western part of the OLGA Park, in the middle of a rectangular 200 m long and 15 m wide area, stands the 16-meter-high Schwarzes Tor observation tower . The ramp-like facility rises slightly from west to east and is surrounded by an artificial moat. Approx. The headframe of the Osterfeld colliery is 300 m northeast of the tower.

Transport links

The OLGA Park is connected on the west side via the stop of the same name to the local traffic route, which was partly built on a disused railway line in 1996 as part of the new construction of the CentrO . A tram line and several express bus or city bus routes operate here .

Oberhausen State Garden Show stop

In the east of the site, a stopping point was created for the State Garden Show on the Duisburg – Quakenbrück railway line , which today is only in operation as a single-track connecting line for goods traffic to Bottrop on this section . The breakpoint consisted of a side platform and was located near the "Gartendom", the former coal mixing hall in the OLGA Park.

From here there was a shuttle train connection to Oberhausen Central Station . These trains were put together with steam covering and historical rolling stock.

The trains had the marshalling yard Oberhausen-West make head and had a route visit the Gasometer Oberhausen . The stop was closed again after the State Garden Show ended, but the platform is still there today.
