ONAIR is a German music group from Berlin that sings a cappella and was composed in 2013 by Patrick Oliver (beatbox), Kristofer Benn (bass), Stefan Flügel (baritone), André Bachmann (tenor), Jennifer Kothe (soprano) and Marta Helmin (soprano) Founded.

history

André Bachmann, Patrick Oliver, Kristofer Benn and Jennifer Kothe studied jazz & pop singing together at the Berlin University of Music "Hanns Eisler" . Stefan Flügel, André Bachmann and Patrick Oliver had previously played together in the band muSix , which broke up in 2014.

As a sextet , ONAIR played their own versions of pieces by Radiohead , Björk , Massive Attack , Daft Punk , Metallica and Alanis Morissette, as well as folk songs and smooth jazz . In April 2014 the band performed at the SingStrong Chicago A Cappella Festival in Chicago (USA) and then documented their tour in a video on YouTube.

In mid-2014, the group presented their premiere program Take off and toured Germany with it. In July 2016, the band began touring all over Germany and Europe with the Illuminate program and presented it in January 2017 in the ZDF morning magazine .

Participation in the Los Angeles A Cappella Festival (LAAF) in early February 2017 had to be canceled at the last minute because the United States Customs and Border Protection refused entry to individual members of the group.

In September 2017 tenor Stefan Flügel announced his departure from ONAIR, but he will stay with the group as arranger and composer. The group has appeared as a quintet since autumn 2018 .

From April 29th to May 2nd, 2018 ONAIR took part in the Moscow A Cappella Festival . Simultaneously conceived as a competition, a total of 184 a cappella bands and choirs from 16 countries performed in 2018. ONAIR took 1st place in the category of five to eight-piece bands.

In February 2018, the first ONAIR VOCAL NIGHT took place at the Berlin University of the Arts . Guest artist was the pop choir Perpetuum Jazzile from Slovenia .

In May 2019 ONAIR took part again in the "Moscow A Cappella Festival" as one of 195 groups from 26 countries and won the GRAND PRIX of the festival.
