description
A vehicle concept was developed by the then Waterways and Shipping Directorate Northwest and the pilot brotherhoods involved , which corresponds to the latest technology, is specially tailored to the conditions in the North Sea and replaces the pilot station ship Kapitän Bleeker . The result is a nearly 20 m long boat made of glass fiber reinforced plastic with a special hull that guarantees good sailing characteristics even in rough seas . The "beak" on the bow , which ensures more course stability and buoyancy, and an almost circumferential fender tube are striking . The unsinkable and self-righting pilot boats are powered by two MTU - Diesel engines driven that interact with each 900 kW on two fixed-pitch propellers. The maximum speed is 30 knots .
With the commissioning of the first boats, the captain Bleeker stationed in the Westerems was drafted. The fast boats drive up to eight pilots from the protective harbor on Borkum to the transfer position or back. They are supported by the Borkum . The fourth boat, the Visurgis , is stationed in Bremerhaven and serves the pilot station in the Outer Weser .
